Movies

THIS PAGE UNDER CONSTRUCTION. Please come back later.

This page contains QuickTime movies, which were made available as the Mars Pathfinder mission progressed. Below are still frames of each movie, with a brief description of what is in each movie.

NOTE: These files have been zipped so you can dowload and view the files off-line.

Note for Mac users: StuffIt Expander will open zip files; still, if you want a StuffIt version of these movies, drop me an e-mail and I'll post them here.

Movie 1: Getting There Movie 3: Mars from rover's eyes
A desciption on how the Pathfinder would approach, and land, on Mars. A chute deploys, then balloons inflate to let the module bounce on the surface.
This shows a view of Mars, from Sojourner's (the robot rover) perspective. No audio in this clip, but you'll see some great computer animation.

The movies are available for download here, though it will take from 5-15 minues each to do so (depending on your dial-up Internet speed .. broadband users go MUCH faster). If you're not in a hurry, though, you can just download one movie, and come back at another time to download another movie. More movies will be posted here at a later date.

Each movie downloads into a separate browser window, which you can minimize so you can go on with your surfing.

To download a movie: Select a movie by clicking on its picture above. If you don't have a QuickTime plug-in for your browser, you can go to http://www.quicktime.com/ and get one FREE. I hope to later also have Windows Media Player files to download, as well.
